Early Thanksgiving

Turning the calendar from October to November immediately turns my thoughts to the Thanksgiving Holiday and the great time I anticipate with my family.  It also is a time that we set aside to offer a special thanks to our heavenly father for the many blessings he has provided for us throughout the year.  The Lord has blessed is greatly this year and in particular has kept his hand on our little grandson.  As you may remember from one of my previous posts, It was just little of a year that we got the call that our daughter-in-law had been taken to the hospital in early labor and within a few weeks our grandson was born, weighing just over 2 lbs.  Looking at him now, it's hard to believe that he was born prematurely.   He turned one year old recently and he's the picture of perfect health.  Many of the issues that plague premature children have not come to fruition for our little guy.  in fact people are amazed when we tell them that he was born prematurely.

Lord we thank you for this little boy, the joy he brings into our lives and the health he have given him.

One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.

Jesus asked, "Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?" Luke 17:15-18

It’s My Party And I’ll Cry If I Want To

So we celebrated my birthday some time back. It
was a great time with good friends and family. Many people hate to see another birthday come by, and yet the alternative to getting another year older doesn’t seem to appealing to me. It’s comforting to know that God has the days of our live planned. We learn in Job,

Man's days are determined; you have decreed the number of his months and have set limits he cannot exceed. Job 14:5

In light of the inspired declaration of Job and others in the Old Testament, The Psalmist writes:

Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12

And

If the LORD delights in a man's way, he makes his steps firm;
though he stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand. Psalm 37:23-24

If we look at these verses as a whole, I think they are relaying to us that God has a plan for our lives, down to the number of days we are to live on this earth. I think if we are to number our days aright, we are to really making each day count, learning more about God, and building a relationship with his Son, the Holy One.
It is written in John 6:28-29,

Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?"
Jesus answered,
"The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

If we do the work of God, which is believing in the one he sent, Jesus, then he will delight in our ways, and although as humans, we stumble, he will uphold us and keep us on the path he has destined for us.

It's A Boy

The call came in this morning. Our son told us that the doctor said that the baby needs to be born today. My daughter-in-law had been experiencing contractions throughout last night and into today. No amount of drugs could calm them and the baby’s birth could no longer be prolonged. My prayer has been, "Lord you know the best time for our little baby’s birth, we rely on you." Today was that day and I’m please to say we have a new grandson, 15 inches & not quite 3 lbs.

The birth of every child is important to the Lord & the blessing they bring to each family. He blessed Abraham and Sarah and the timing of their son. They were at an advanced age and having a baby at their age was very much against the odds. However, the Lord tells Abraham in
Genesis 18:14
:

Is anything too hard for the LORD? I will return to you at the appointed time next year and Sarah will have a son.

Our little grandson is doing very well. His nurse has warned us that the baby’s progress can go up and down as he stays in the hospital. We continue to rely on the Lord to have our little baby in the palm of his hand.

We continue to be thankful for the prayers of our family and friends throughout the world.
